- Seal and repair the pipe leakage. Ensure complete drainage of the pipe before repairing.
- Once the water leakage source is sealed, remove fungus with a soft brush and bleach. Flush with clean water and allow to dry thoroughly.
To prevent recurrence:
- remove the source of the dampness and to dry out the walls as thoroughly as possible
- improve rainwater runoff to prevent moisture retention
- remove the infected paint
- sterilise the surface by applying an antiseptic wash and to allow it to dry before redecorating; and
- use a fungi resistant paint
