Remedial

In most cases damaged paint is unable to be repaired, as the paint film is often permanently damaged. While temporary patchwork repair such as painting over is possible, it often does not address the root cause of the issue. As such, the problem will more often than not return until the root cause has been addressed. This may include water leakage or trapped water.

For damages due to the water, it is recommended to begin by first removing any blistering or flaking paint through scraping. Followed by a thorough cleaning of the surface. This is followed by the application of a layer of sealer binder, which purpose is to seep into the porous surface where water is bound to penetrate. This layer should then be given sufficient time to dry as per manufacturer instruction.

A filler coating is then added if required to create a leveled surface for painting. This should also be given sufficient time to dry as per manufacturer instruction. This is followed by an undercoat or primer which is applied to improve adhesion of paint to the substrate as well as prolong durability while improving protection. Lastly, a layer of paint is added to give the surface the desired colour. Latex and oil based paints are often utilised in environments that are prone to water exposure. This creates a barrier between the substrate and the elements.
