Defect and Repair
Glass | Defect | Repair |
Sealant Staining | Clean the streaking mark with suitable agent with alchohol or thinner base. The compatibility of the cleaning agent has to be confirmed with the manufacturer.
After locating the offending sealant, it is cut off and resealed. If the defective area is too large, the silicone around the whole unit can be cut away and resealed all around again. |
|
Cracking and Shattering | Glass panels with cracklines should be replaced immediately before catastrophic shattering occurs.
Staining | In most cases, only cleaning work is needed. However, if the staining is to be minimized or controlled totally, a capping that runs along the edge of the roof can be installed so that runoff can be channeled to a drainage down pipe and prevented from flowing over the edges.
Cleaning Access | Not applicable
Microscopic cracks | Occur during manufacturing process, caused by impurities in the raw material. Cannot be visualized by naked eye. Ideally, glass with this type of defect has to be rejected before installation.
Delamination of laminated glass causing unsightly air bubble within the glass cavity. | Replace with a new panel. |
