Bloom Mortar containing cement can become covered with a thin surface of layer of carbonated material, derived from the free lime present in all types of cement mortars. The effect may be more pronounced where darker shades of pigmented mortars are used. |
Lime bloom usually disappears by itself. immediate removal may be achieved by washing with a 5% solution of hydrochloric acid or a proprietary concrete cleaner of similar strength applied in accordance with the procedures set out in Clause 12.5 CP 67, which is about how to precept, apply and rinse. |
