Cause of Defects
Several factors can contribute to such problems in metal panels:
- Stress During Coil Production
- Slitting and Fabrication
- Improper design of anchorages and supports
- Improper installation
- Thermal Expansion and Contraction
- Wear and tear
Chipping off of coating may also have occurred due to:
- Incorrect abrasive cleaning methods or due to poor working practices during scheduled maintenance.
- Poor Workmanship and improper handling during installation.
- Poor manufacturing practices resulting in the finishing coat not having good adhesion to the metal sheet.
Consequences
Chipping off of the protective paint layer will expose the base metal to atmospheric agents. The base may then be corroded and peeling of paint layer in large pieces may occur.
