Remedial
Coating with paint, oil or non-corrosive materials does not give a permanent solution to the defect.
The remedial actions are:
- Remove the fitting.
- Clean the rust stains with an abrasive cleaning agent.
- Seal the stone against further staining and replace with one that does not corrode e.g. nickel.
Remedial actions should be done promptly to prevent penetration of the rust into the stone’s pores which causes cleaning to become much more difficult and expensive.
