Tiling
Material
Various types of marble tiles present different physical characteristics and chemical properties. These tiles should be fully tested to meet the performance requirements stipulated in the contract before mass installation. Their expected performances for wet areas are shown in Table 1.
Property | Standard | Standard Test |
Slip resistance | Coefficient of friction > 0.4 | ISO 13006: 1998/ ISO 10545: 1995 |
Abrasion resistance | 10 -12 | ASTM C241: 1997 |
Impact resistance | Pass/ not pass | ISO 10545-5: 1996 |
Chemical resistance | Pass/ not pass | ISO 10545-13: 1995/ ASTM C217: 1999 |
Water absorption | 0.1 – 0.6% | ISO 10545-3: 1995/SS 483: 2000/BS 5385-1: 1995/ ASTM C 97: 2002 |

Sealers for stones should be selected if they are porous, to prevent water from being retained in the pores of the stones.Sealers should have the following properties:
- virtually odourless
- non yellowing
- deep penetrating protection
- weather resistant
- maximum stain resistance
Construction
During tiling process, tiles should be pre-treated with the selected water repellent impregnator (Figure 1) [1].
