Remedial
Repair: Re-painting
- Seal the water source before repainting the surface. This can be done using epoxy injection method.
- Make sure that you have covered the entire affected area and left no holes, cracks, or spaces in the epoxy. The epoxy need about four hours to harden. Do not touch it until it is complete.
- Remove loose and flaking paint with a scraper or wire brush, sanding the surface and feathering the edges. If the flaking occurs in multiple layers of paint, use of a filler may be necessary.
- Surface should be cleaned before applying the paint.
- Use of a top quality primer and top coat should prevent a recurrence of the problem.
- Refer to “good practice section” for details and instructions of painting process.
Use of water repellents
- Treat the external surface with a layer of silicone water repellent.
- This would prevent water seepage through walls.
